2007 Tony Awards Announced

Very few surprises as Broadway announces its best of the year

In the past few years, the Tony Awards, which honour the best of the Broadway season, have become fairly predictable.

The exception to that certainly has to be when in 2004 when a little musical called Avenue Q beat out the juggernaut musical, Wicked.

The nominee announcement was made by Jane Krakowski (Nine, Guys & Dolls) and Taye Diggs (Original cast member of RENT) on the morning of May 15th, and the 2007 edition of the Antoniette Perry Awards (also known as the Tony's), could turn out to be one of the toughest to predict the winners for.

Several shows, including the musicals Spring Awakening and Grey Gardens led the pack with 11 and 10 nominees respectively, and Tom Stoppard's trilogy, The Coast Of Utopia led all plays with 10 nominations, beating out Coram Boy, Journey's End, and Inherit The Wind.

The Tony Awards will be presented on Sunday, June 10th at the Radio City Music Hall. A host has yet to be announced.
