The mega-hit musical Mamma Mia! is set to hit the big screen, joining RENT, The Producers, Dreamgirls as the latest movie musical.
It has been announced that Pierce Brosnan, known for his work as James Bond, will star in the film adaptation as Sam Carmichael, the love interest of Donna, who will be played by Meryl Streep. The film will commence shooting at the end of June 2007 in London and in Greece, with an expected release date of late 2007/early 2008. The motion picture will be directed by Phyllida Lloyd, who helmed the stage version of the show featuring a script by Catherine Johnson and music by ABBA. The story revolves around Sophie Sheridan as she embarks on finding her father on the eve of her wedding. She brings 3 past loves of her mother, Donna, to a small Greek island in hopes of finding her father to walk her down the aisle. The musical has been a hit around the world, and is still running on Broadway and in London.
