Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey danced into our hearts in the hit movie, and now you'll be able to have the "time of your life" when Dirty Dancing arrives in Toronto.
According to the press release, "Dirty Dancing is a popular culture icon. It is a coming of age love story involving the talented and headstrong dancer Johnny Castle and Frances “Baby” Houseman. During her family’s summer holiday at the popular Kellerman’s resort, Baby, a doctor’s daughter with dreams of joining the Peace Corps, meets Johnny, the guy from the wrong side of the tracks. Against all odds, they fall in love, learning life-changing lessons along the way. Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage, follows the highs and lows of their summer romance."
With songs like “Hungry Eyes,” the Academy Award-winning “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life,” and classics like “Do You Love Me?”, Dirty Dancing is not a typical musical. It's using established pop tunes, rather than creating a brand new score.
A massive success in London, Sydney and in Germany, Dirty Dancing arrives in Toronto on the heels of another successful musical from overseas - We Will Rock You, which opens in March 2007 at the Canon Theatre.
Dirty Dancing will be helmed by James Powell and choreographed by Kate Champion, who repeat their work from the original productions.
The show will begin previews at the Royal Alexandra Theatre on October 31st, 2007, with the Gala opening night to be held on Thursday, November 15th.
A nation-wide casting search will begin shortly.
Single tickets will be available in April 2007, with group sales available by clicking here.
