Flower City Theatre Festival
The Flower City Theatre Festival, held annually in the city of Brampton, Ontario, is about to begin.
This summer, six shows will be presented, including three at the historic Heritage Theatre, and three Shakespeare plays in Ken Whillans Square, which is located right outside of Brampton's City Hall in Ontario, just west of Toronto. Scott Lale, Artistic Director of A.C.T. Productions, has helped select a diverse season, including the Tony Award Winning Play Art, Jason Robert Brown's chamber musical The Last 5 Years and Wake Me When It's Over!, written by Muskoka residents Vince Grittani and Rosalind Mills. Art focuses on the friendship between 3 men - Serge, Marc and Yvan, after Serge buys a painting - a white painting, to be exact, much to the chagrin of Marc. The painting sparks a heated debate about the meaning and value of art, and a fifteen year friendship teeters in the balance. Helmed by Scott Lale, it features Peter Van Wart (Serge), David Cairns (Marc) and Scott Carmichael (Yvan). It opens on June 29th, and runs until August 20th. The Last 5 Years is a touching musical that tells the story of a 5 year relationship of Jamie and Cathy. This story is told in a different kind of way as Cathy begins at the end of their story, and Jamie at the beginning, leading to the end of their relationship. Starring Stephanie Roth as Cathy, and Nick Cordero as Jamie. Danny Harvey directs, and Myron DeSouza is the musical director. It opens on July 6th, and runs until August 27th. Wake Me When It's Over! premiered a few years back in Muskoka, and makes it's Brampton debut this summer. Roger is scared about the prospect of life after 50, and so he is recommended to go through a 12-step program to help him come to terms with the women in his life. Featuring Kirk Teeple as Roger, and Virginia Cowan and Christine Ford as the women in his life, this upbeat, fun musical is directed by Rob Woodcock, with musical direction by Myron DeSouza. It opens on July 6th, and runs until August 19th. All three shows play in repertory. For complete details on show dates and times, tickets and prices, call 905-874-2800.
