Frost/Nixon, based on the infamous interview between British reporter David Frost and President Richard Nixon, has its Canadian premiere in Vancouver in Sept. 2008.
Frost/Nixon premiered in London in 2006, to resounding success. A Broadway transfer was equally successful, garnering a Tony Award for Frank Langella. A film version, directed by Ron Howard, is scheduled for release at the end of 2008, starring Langella and his original co-star, Michael Sheen. The press release says, "In 1977, British talk show host David Frost conducted a series of interviews with disgraced former President Richard Nixon that became the most-watched public affairs programme in television history." The production begins performances on September 13, 2008 and runs until October 4 at the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre. The Vancouver Playhouse production of the Peter Morgan play is a co-production with the Canadian Stage Company in Toronto. It is helmed by Ted Dykstra, and stars David Storch as David Frost and stage legend Len Cariou as Richard Nixon. David Storch, the former Artistic Director of the Canadian Stage Company, is well-known for his work on stage and off. His previous directorial credits for Canadian Stage include Palace Of The End, A Number, Sunday Father, and Omnium Gatherum. He also directed Art for the Arts Club Theatre Company. As an actor, he has performed in Take Me Out, Amadeus, Angels In America, and Patience. He has also performed with the Soulpepper Theatre Company, Crow's Theatre, and the Citadel Theatre in Halifax. Len Cariou is a Tony Award winning actor. Born in Winnipeg, Cariou shot to fame after he created roles in two of Broadway's greatest musicals – Frederik Egerman in A Little Night Music, and the title role in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street, opposite Angela Lansbury. Other notable performances include roles in Applause opposite Lauren Bacall, Proof opposite Anne Heche and Neil Patrick Harris, and The Dinner Party with John Ritter. He is the former Artistic Director of the Manitoba Theatre Centre, and the former Associate Director at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis.
