The History Boys rocked Broadway this past season, playing to sold-out houses and critical acclaim.
The National Theatre Production of Alan Bennetts hit play will receive it's West End Debut on January 3rd, 2007, at the Wyndham Theatre following previews from December 21st.
Nicolas Hytner directed the original production, which won 4 Olivier Awards, and then went on to win six Tony Awards this past season, including Best Director for Hytner and Best Play for Bennett.
The original cast followed the show for its North American Premiere which closed at the Broadhurst Theatre on October 1st.
The West End production will feature the touring company, led by Stephen Moore, who plays the school teacher, Hector. The role was originated by Richard Griffiths (Uncle Vernon from the Harry Potter films) who won the Best Actor Tony Award this season for The History Boys.
Directed by Simon Cox, the cast also includes The cast also includes Isla Blair as Mrs Linott, William Chubb as the Headmaster and Orlando Wells as Irwin. The boys are played by Owain Arthur, Ben Barnes (Dakin), Philip Correia (Rudge), Marc Elliott, Thomas Morrison (Scripps), Akemnji Ndifornyen, David Poynor and Steven Webb (Posner).
The news of the West End Transfer comes on the heels of the film version of the play opening in England on October 13th. No dates have been announced for the films arrival in North America.
