New Look Amadeus Set To OpenJohn Doyle Is At It Again
Director/Designer John Doyle, who won the Best Director of a musical Tony Award this season, is tackling a new kind of work - Peter Shaffer's Amadeus.
Doyle has been hailed as a visionary for his musical theatre work. He has re-worked classic musical theatre pieces, including Sweeney Todd, Company, and Mack And Mabel, by casting not only actors who can sing, but actors who can also play instruments. The actors in his productions also serve as the orchestra. His work on Sweeney Todd this past season has been called "visionary", and "remarkable". This coming year, he will re-visit his production of Company for a Broadway opening. Currently, Doyle has a new project that is set to open in the East End of London. Peter Shaffer's Amadeus has had a long and successful history on stage, as well as an Academy Award Winning film version. The Olivier Award-winning Matthew Kelly, who won the Olivier Award for his role in Of Mice And Men plays Salieri. The cast also features Jonathan Broadbent as Mozart, Jess Murphy as Constanze, Eamonn O'Dwyer, Sebastian Bates, Sam Kenyon, Philip Battley, Harry Napier, Michael Howcroft, Susannah Van Den Berg, Elisa Boyd, Sioned Saunders, Michael George Moore, Benedict James and Juliet Leighton-Jones. Amadeus is now playing Wilton's Music Hall, until October 14th.
