Theatre Francais de Toronto has a long standing tradition of premiering acclaimed playwright Michel Tremblay's new work, and as of October 18th, they will do it again.

Tremblay's work stems from his personal experiences with his family growing up in Quebec. Each of his plays has a dark humour to it, and Toronto theatre audiences have fallen in love with his biting, dark humour. Last season, Tarragon Theatre presented Past Perfect to sold out houses, and CanStage produced For The Pleasure Of Seeing Her Again to audience acclaim.

In this new play, entitled Bonbons Assortis (Assorted Bonbons), the playwright, as a child, spends his time under the dining room table listening to the conversations of the adults in his life. We see some of Tremblay's familiar characters; Nana, his mother; Aunt Albertine; grandmother Victoire; his father Gabriel and Josaphat-le-violon. The story focuses on this dysfunctional family and the trials and tribulations of their lives.

Guy Mignault, the Artistic Director of Theatre Francais de Toronto helms the production, and plays the role of Josaphat-le-violon. Joining Mignault on stage is Martin Albert as Gabriel, Sébastien Bertrand as Michel, Lina Blais as Albertine, Marie-Hélène Fontaine as Nana, Julie Legal as Lise Allard, and Louise Nolan as Victoire.

The set and lighting design will be provided by Glen Charles Landry, with costume design by Dora-Nominated designer Nina Okens.

Bonbons Assortis begins performances on October 18th, with opening night on October 20th. The show runs until November 4th at the Berkeley Street Theatre Upstairs. For more information, click on the Theatre Francais de Toronto website.
