Ashlee Simpson To Play Roxie Hart In London Production

Ashlee Simpson, younger sister of Jessica, and new pop star, will make her West End debut in Kander and Ebb's hit musical, Chicago, beginning at the end of September.

The hit revival production of Chicago, both in London and New York, has had it's share of pop stars and icons join their casts for a period of time. Currently, R&B superstar Usher is playing the role of Billy Flynn on Broadway, and now it's time for the younger Simpson sister to step before the footlights and show the theatre world what she is made of.

Ashlee Simpson, age 21, shot to stardom with her debut recording Autobiography and obtained notarity for her performance on Saturday Night Live, where many accused her of lip-synching. She followed that performance with the release of her sophomore recording, I Am Me, which caused a stir with fellow recording artist Lindsay Lohan. All of the controversies may be laid to rest though with her first professional stage performance, and this may only be the beginning for Simpson.

She will play the role of the young and not-so-innocent Roxie Hart, opposite Ian Kelsey as Billy Flynn, Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly and Julian Sims as Amos Hart from September 25th until October 28th.

John Kander and Fred Ebb's hit musical Chicago plays the Cambridge Theatre, and is booking until April 2007.
