The Soulpepper Theatre Company, based out of the Young Centre For The Performing Arts in Toronto, have announced their 2007 season, and there are some gems.
This season, Soulpepper has produced The Chairs, The Importance Of Being Earnest, American Buffalo, King Lear, and Our Town, with The Caretaker and A Christmas Carol still on the way. While their current season is still going on, they have made plans for their 2007 season, their second year at the Young Centre For The Performing Arts.
On tap for 2007 is:
The Threepenny Opera by Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht, to be directed by Tim Albery, starring Albert Schultz as Macheath (Mack The Knife).
John Gabriel Borkman by Henrik Ibsen, to be directed by Leah Cherniak in co-production with Theatre Columbus.
Leaving Home, David French's classic Canadian play will receive it's first Toronto production since it premiered in 1972, helmed by company member Ted Dykstra.
Our Town will return to the stage at the Young Centre in it's 3rd production by Soulpepper, this time as one of the city of Toronto's major events for the Luminato Festival.
Anne-Marie Macdonald, acclaimed author and actress, will make her Soulpepper debut in Caryl Churchill's Top Girls.
Running in repetory for the summer with Our Town will be The Time Of Your Life by William Saroyan.
Chekhov's Three Sisters will be directed by Laszlo Marton, who is known for his work with Soulpepper's 2005 production of The Wild Duck.
Mary Stuart, directed by Joseph Ziegler, will feature Susan Coyne, Stuart Hughes, and Nancy Palk.
Finally, the last show of the season will be Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit starring Fiona Reid, and will be directed by Morris Panych.
The season will be formally announced today, and if this season is any indication, it will prove to be dazzling.
