The Tony Award Winning Musical, The Light In The Piazza, written by Adam Guettel and Craig Lucas, is coming to Toronto in the summer of 2007.
According to Christine Andreas' official website, she has been cast in the lead role of Margaret in the musical, and the show will play the Canon Theatre from July 24th until September 2nd, 2007. While nothing formal has been announced yet, it looks as though it will be a part of the Mirvish 2007-2008 Subscription Season. The Light In The Piazza focuses on the relationship between Margaret and her daughter, Clara. Set during the 1950's, Mother and Daughter embark on a trip to Italy when Clara finds love in Florence. The romantic, lush musical won the Tony Award for Best Score and Best Orchestrations. Bartlett Sher directs, as he did with the original Broadway production, and the design teams will re-work the scenic elements to fit into the proscenium theatres that will house the tour. Adam Guettel, best known for his musical Floyd Collins, penned the lyrics and music for this musical based on Elizabeth Spencer's novella. The Light In The Piazza is playing now until July 2nd on Broadway at the Beaumont Theatre. The Light In The Piazza Broadway Production Information
